Another end of the year but I won't reflect but celebrate the last day of 2020 win
At this time of the year, you will see a lot of articles reviewing the wins and the lessons of the current year and maybe project what we look forward to in the upcoming year. Well I think the way 2020 has gone, there are has been a lot of drama and uncertainty. The last few weeks to the end of the year has had me completing projects and doing interesting tasks.
I can say at the end of 2020, I was able to assist a friend in setting up a project he has been working on over months https://keyedin.app/ on AWS. I didn’t code the project up myself but instead provided support around infrastructure. From the onset, I have fleshed out a Github based deployment pipeline that pushed Docker images to the Digitalocean servers which served as the staging environment. In the last few weeks of December I have had to roll out an AWS Environment.
I spent the last few weeks learning about terraform while fleshing out the architecture. It was an intense few weeks with his client pressuring for launch. But I am glad to say I got it done and even had time to write a handover documentation. A proud moment for me I may add.
In the year 2020, in the last two quarters, I picked up Flutter development. I have always wanted to gain some experience building a mobile app and bringing to light a personal project. The project is a shopping list app I think I will find more useful at home. My knowledge of the Flutter ecosystem has grown so much and I started using pretty sleek libraries like the Bloc library, Freezed and I currently have the API for this running on Staging environment hosted on Digitalocean. Project still needs work.
In the course of the last few months, my knowledge of AWS has increased and I feel in 2021, I will be writing the AWS Solutions Architect exam. I did start reading for the exam but was never ready since I didn’t get enough practical experience. I have also been considering another programming language to add to my toolchain. Currently hovering around Typescript or F#. I think 2021 will be the year I actually learn a functional programming language and I may need to pitch my tent on F#. Looks like I will be returning to the .NET ecosystem after more than 8 years away from C#. Lastly. on the 31st of December, 2020, I ran a 10k distance in a -1C weather. My exercise routine has been up and down through the year but I decided to end it on an up. I completed my 10k and also went on a new running route. I never run on the open road but on this day I did. I will keep up the routine and maybe in 2021 I will be attend my first Marathon. We shall see.
Its been a great year and I do wish you a happy 2021 ahead.
